This city tour will take you around the city of Chiang Rai to find out what the city has to offer.
We start the trip with a short visit to the Monument of the City’s Founder – King Meng Rai the Great.
While Chiang Rai may be a small city compared to its more popular and sister city – Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai has a few surprises of its own. One of these is the famous story of the Emerald Buddha, which has taken residences in many different cities like Chiang Mai, Lampang, Kamphengphet, and Luang Prabang and Vientiane.
While we would like to show you lots and lots of temples, we have decided to limit the visit to only a couple – Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Doi Thong.
We then take you to walk around the local market where people bought things before supermarkets like Big C, Tesco Lotus, or Macro came into town. These small shops remain popular among the locals because things that are sold here cannot be found in the supermarkets. Other mom-and-pop shops, however, have not been so lucky and have had to close down.
We conduct this tour only in the afternoons when the local market is crammed with street vendors that sell freshly cooked food, vegetables, fresh fruits sticky rice, barbecued pork or chicken (around 16:00 h to 21:00 h).
From the market, we take you to another interesting place called the Rai Mae Fah Luang, which has an interesting collection of Lanna Art. They also have a wonderfully kept botanical garden.
Minimum number of passengers recommended is two.
