General Information

There is no better place to learn about tribal culture than the Hilltribe Museum and Education Center located right at the heart of Chiang Rai.

The Hilltribe Museum and Education Center was established to provide Tourists in Chiang Rai with basic information about the culture of the six major tribal groups in Northern Thailand. These tribal groups include the Akha, Hmong, Karen, Lahu, Lisu, and Yao.

All tourists that plan on visiting tribal villages must come to the Hilltribe Museum first. You might find out later that you will

Slide Shows: We have a 20-minute slide show featuring the culture of these six tribal groups and can be heard in  any of 5 languages “ Thai, English, French, German and Japanese.  Also available upon request are the following topics:  Weaving, the Aquatic Resources of the Mekong River , Community-based Tourism, Human-Trafficking Prevention.
Facilities: Hilltribe Museum has a total floor space of about 650 square meters. We have an audio visual room that can seat 50 persons.
Social Projects: Each year, the Hilltribe Museum distributes sweaters and blankets to tribal people in remote villages, economically disadvantages persons, persons with HIV/AIDS and orphans. You may also drop your unwanted clothes or toys so we can distribute them to persons that desperately need them.
Business Hours: The Hilltribe Museum is open from 08:30 h to 18:00 h on weekdays and from 10:00 h to 18:00 h on weekends and holidays.
